The BreathofOrigin
He is fifteen, and everything he loves fits inside one house.
His grandmother. The mountain. A flute nobody ever taught him to play. No clan behind his name. No lineage anyone has traced.
Then, in a single night, that life turns to tragedy.
An evening like any other — until he comes home to find his grandmother on the floor. The nightmare that follows leaves him hunted by the possessed, and saved, at the last moment, by a traveller named Kassim.
What comes next is his introduction into a secret order, and the true start of the hunt — dungeons, missions, danger — while he tries to learn who he really is, what the ancient presence was that he met the night he nearly died, and who is responsible for his grandmother’s death, and why.
He only hears things other people can’t.
An old Amazigh world — and something beneath it never agreed to sleep.
The Clans
Six houses hold the country between them. Rank is everything, blood is most things, and a boy with neither is not supposed to exist in the same room as them.
The Cursed Dungeons
Mines that were sealed long before anyone alive can account for. Crystals, weapons and rank for whoever comes back up. Almost nobody comes back up.
The Mlouk
Spirit-kings. They hold the deepest dungeons, and no clan has ever taken one by force. What the great houses have instead is an arrangement — and an arrangement has to be renewed.
Every five years, the great houses stay awake until dawn.
A courtyard closed to outsiders. Incense laid on coals until the air goes heavy. A Maalem who plays until the room stops being a room.
It runs from dusk to first light, and by then something has been settled for another five years. The clans call it an honour, and an inheritance, and proof that they were chosen.
They are not wrong. They have simply never been told the whole of it.
